ROW80 TeacherWriter Check in Wednesday, December 14

In case you haven’t heard of it, ROW80 is an acronym for A Round of Words in 80 Days. It’s a blog and writing support group started by author Kait Nolan. We have our individual goals, and twice a week, we check in with each other to see how everyone is doing. It’s sort of like a Weight Watchers weigh-in, only it’s a Word Watchers write-in.

My goal is very simple. Very small. Very straightforward.

  • Write 100 words a day in any genre.

Sounds like a snap, right? Now I would love that genre to be the YA romance novel I’m working on, but alas, this week that’s not happening yet.

Sunday I wrote 1,100 words on an interview of the main character in my soon to be released novel. The interview is for promotional purposes. (However, it’s not my novel WIP.)

Monday I wrote 789 words on varying copyediting posts. (Still not my novel WIP.)

Tuesday I wrote 832 words on a nonfiction craft article. (Again, not the novel.)

As you can see, I’m meeting my word count goal, however, my novel is not getting the attention it deserves. The writing is meaningful; it all serves a purpose.

But what I really want to be writing is my…

Novel.

Maybe ROW80 will help me focus in on the most important writing I should do in my few minutes a day I have to devote to the craft.

Go to the Linky Tools check-in page if you’d like to see how everyone else in ROW80 is doing.

  1. wordswordswordswordswordswordswordswordswordswordswordswords.. not writing 100 of them. :)

  2. Perhaps narrow your goal to 100 words on your novel, and then do the rest?

  3. I think what you wrote is one big wordwordswords…

Funny! Thanks for stopping by the blog!

  4. Kaitlin, I think you’re on to something. I always meet my little goal, just not always on the novel. I should do the novel first, then move on to other things, right?

  5. I just stopped by Bridgette Booth’s ROW80 blog, and she had a brilliant idea. She put all her #ROW80 posts on one page, with all the comments in one place. I like that. For the next round, I’m doing the same. Thanks for the good idea, Bridgette! Here’s her blog, if you want to know what I’m talking about.

  6. I’m with Kaitlin on this one. If you want to write on the novel, make your goal “Write 100 words a day on my novel” or something like that. That’ll force you to focus on the novel first. :)

  7. Yep. In the next round, I’ll be more specific and that will make me more accountable for what I’m actually writing. Instead of avoiding the novel. #IamnotaprocrastinatoramI?

  8. Definitely the novel first. You could make the goal smaller if you need to. Sometimes a teeny tiny goal is very motivating.
